Be Prepared to Modify Your Domain Name
After you have decided what name you are going to use for your blog or website, be prepared in case that name is not available. When your ready to register you domain name, you will need to find a domain registering service. (There are affiliate links in this post.) I recommend GoDaddy.com. In my opinion they have the least expensive domain names and the best customer service. They will help you right along the way if you need it.
Usually you can get your first domain name for around a dollar, for the first year, and it may go up to 10 to 15 dollars the next year. You have to purchase at least two years to get the dollar price. Two years should give you enough time to decide if the name is going to work for you our not. I have all of my domain names registered with Go Daddy. I use them separately from a web hosting company as I like to have full control over my domain name. (more about this later)
When you go to their site you will see a search domain box. Type the name you want in this box to see if it is available. If the exact name that you wanted is not available, you may have to change it up slightly until you find one that is available. I usually start by changing the last word and searching again. Keep doing this until you get one that is available. Once you get one, follow the on screen directions to pay your fee and complete the registration process. See the link below for Go Daddy:
